Digital and Social Media

In 2009, e-skills UK (now Tech Partnership) published research that concluded the UK needed 110,500 new employees entering the IT and telecoms sector every year over the next five years and beyond – and apprenticeship programmes are a vital source of this new workforce.

Every year, the IT and telecoms sector needs 20,800 new entrants from full-time education, 57,800 from roles in other sectors, and a further 43,600 from other sources (such as returners to work).

Our Advanced Apprenticeship in IT, Software, Web & Telecoms will help a growing number of well-trained new entrants to join the sector, and give existing employees to increase their skills and move into a valuable sector with exciting potential.

Skills Developed and Progression Routes

Some of the IT skills apprentices will learn include:

  • Creating software applications and websites
  • Designing and planning the installation of IT and telecoms networks
  • Testing software applications before they are released
  • Network management and security
  • Principles of ICT system and data security
  • Self-management, creative thinking, reflective learning and team work

Successful apprentices who complete the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship programme can progress their studies and take a related IT degree programme. They can choose from Bachelors degrees, Foundation degrees, Higher Nationals or another higher level qualification, in areas like Computing, Business Information Systems, IT or Telecommunications.

They can also choose to continue in their current job while studying for additional technical, business or managerial level training and qualifications. Apprentices who complete a Level 3 apprenticeship programme often move onto team leader or senior level positions, using their expanding technical expertise and guiding and training others in their organisation.
