APL Programme – Guild of Gas (CCN1, CENWAT,CKR1, HTR1 and CPA1)

The Approved Prior Learning Programme (APL) for domestic natural gas is designed to allow new entrants to the gas industry to progress through the ACS nationally accredited certification scheme and become a Domestic Gas Engineer. Once you have successfully completed the APL course you will be able to apply for your own gas safe registration or work under someone else’s gas safe registration. Our programme is ERS certified and is known as the Guild of Gas. ERS is an accredited certification body registered under the ACS scheme

How long will this course take me to complete?

15 days college based training (1 day per week)

4 weeks to complete a portfolio of evidence

3 further days college based preparation

2 days of assessment

CCN1 Initial (Core Gas) Students

This course has been developed specifically for operatives from related trades or those with some previous gas experience who are seeking gas qualifications for the first time. You must hold a relevant NVQ in gas or plumbing or a certificate from an approved prior learning gas scheme to be able to enrol on this course. You also need to be working with a Gas Safe engineer to gather a portfolio of evidence. The course will offer you the theory and practical skills to cover the knowledge and understanding to work safely in the commissioning, servicing and installation of domestic pipe work and appliances.

How long will this course take me to complete?

10 days in total, 1 day a week or 2 weeks intensive training.

Stage 1 
•Gas Legislation, Building Regulations and British Standards.
•Principles of Combustion, the combustion process and effects of CO poisoning.
•The use of the flue combustion analyser and interpretation of readings obtained.
•Purpose of Ventilation and requirements for gas appliances.
•Principles of Flueing and Chimney design.
•Function and operation of gas safety controls.
•Domestic natural gas pipework, design and installation.
•CPA1-combustion performance analyser assessment.

Stage 2
•Preparation for ACS assessment process.
•ACS Written Papers.
•ACS Practical assessments.

What is the course content?

Theory and practical training and assessment. to cover the knowledge and understanding to work safely in the commissioning, servicing and installation of domestic pipe work and appliances

Refresher & assessment: 4 to 5 days – 3 days classroom and 1 to 2 days assessment

Assessment only: 1 to 2 days depending on elements chosen.

What is the course content?

This course has been developed specifically for competent operatives who are renewing their gas qualifications.

To qualify for this course you must hold a relevant Gas Safe card that clearly shows the elements you already hold.

Please note that if you have completed your CPA1 qualification previously, this is now included in your CCN1 (Core Gas) qualification.

Unvented Hot Water

This course is for operatives who inspect, install, commission or service Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems. This course will enable operatives to satisfy the competence requirements of Building Regulations G3.

Who is the course suitable for?

This course is for operatives who inspect, install, commission or service Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems. It enables operatives to satisfy the competence requirements of building Regulations G3.

If this is a new qualification for you, you will have to provide certificate(s) of related plumbing, Heating and Ventilation, Gas, Refrigeration qualifications OR a letter from your current/previous employer confirming at least 12 months’ experience in any of these sectors. If this is a renewal, you will need to bring your last certificate to the course.

What is the course content?

The Unvented Hot Water course trains candidates in the installation and safety requirements of all Unvented Hot Water Systems up to 500 litres capacity and to meet the requirements of Building Regulations G3.The course is designed for any candidate wishing to install or maintain Unvented Hot Water Systems. Once you have proved competence, you will be able to meet the requirements of G3 Building Regulations. You will be competent in inspection, installation, commissioning and maintenance of Unvented Hot Water Systems.

1 day training, assessment and certification fee £220 per candidate.

Water Regulations

This course is suitable for operatives with recognised qualifications and/or a minimum 12 months experience from any of the following industry sectors:

Gas
Plumbing
Heating and ventilation

What is the course content?

The Water Regulations course covers the Water Regulations 1999. The course does not require learners to undertake prior learning as all the requirements will be covered during the course.

Upon completion, the successful candidates will receive an ERS certificate which will allow them to apply for approved plumbing contractor status with the Water Authorities.

The course is certificated by ERS Certification
