Week 1: Level 1 Personal Development for Employability

Weeks 2-4:
Level 1 Award in Introductory Metal Inert Gas Welding Skills
- This qualification covers the Level one knowledge and practical skills required by someone preparing to work in the welding industry
- It covers the fundamental knowledge and skills relating to the metal inert gas welding process.
Level 1 NVQ Diploma in Performing Manufacturing Operations
- This introductory qualification covers the fundamental skills and knowledge needed to work effectively in a range of manufacturing roles
- The two mandatory units look at compliance with workplace regulations and safe working practices, as well as effective working relationships.
Eligibility Criteria
To join a course, the candidate will need to be over 19 years’ old, unemployed and in receipt of benefit (JSA, ESA, Income Support or Universal Credit)
- In order to complete all enrolment forms and check eligibility criteria, we need a proof of benefits and an ID, such as valid passport (driving licence or provisional driving licence will only be accepted together with a UK birth certificate).
- If not British, we require a resident card/permit issued from 2019 or before as a proof of living in the UK lawfully for more than 3 years.
- If you are a member of the EU, we require a picture of your passport, pre-settled or settled status shared code.
- Learners will also need to complete a mandatory Maths & English online assessment.
Door Supervisor Examination
The course is assessed by 4 multiple choice exams and a practical exam. These will be held on the last day and will test the learner’s knowledge of the content taught during the course.
Career path and progression
With experience you could:
– Become a supervisor or metal fabrication workshop manager.
– Work in welding inspection, non destructive testing or quality control.
– Do commercial diver training and specialise in underwater welding, for example in oil, gas and marine engineering.
– Become a further education teacher and teach welding.
