Warehouse Operative jobs and career opportunities come in lots of different shapes and sizes. Warehouse work is very important, as the processing and shipping of goods is vital for this world to function. Because of this, warehouse operatives are always in demand and there are plenty of opportunities out there.
As a national training provider, we work with dozens of employers and have eyes on some of the best warehouse jobs before they hit the job boards. On successful completion of our training courses, you will receive a guaranteed interview with one of our employer partners.
But if you’re still not 100% sure, here are a few of the great benefits for warehouse operatives working in the UK right now:
Warehouse Operative starting pay is good and overtime is an option
Like all career paths, the pay for warehouse work has a wide range. But as mentioned – warehouse operatives are always in demand and some large companies are willing to pay impressive hourly rates for the right hard-working staff.
The current UK National Minimum Wage for those aged 23+ is £10.42 per hour, so you should expect at least that. But we’re often seeing opportunities rising to £15 per hour.
Additionally, seasonal work is usually available during busier times (Christmas, Black Friday etc) – we’ve seen overtime rates up to £24 per hour!
Working patterns and shifts are often flexible
Because warehouse work doesn’t involve customer interaction, nearly all warehouses extend their hours far beyond traditional business hours. In fact, many of them are open 24/7.
A lot of the roles that come to us offer multiple shifts to choose from and you likely don’t have to work the same schedule every day if you don’t want to.
Shifts often include days, nights, weekdays, weekends – if you have prior commitments that take up some of your time, you could seek out a role that accommodates this.
Warehouse work keeps you moving and physically engaged
All warehouse positions require some kind of constant movement, whether you’re picking, loading, or packaging. Besides keeping you physically fit, having a manual “always on the move” job is a great way to build your mental and emotional strength.
No experience is needed to start work as a Warehouse Operative
Working in a warehouse is a great choice for someone who has little to no work experience or is considering a career change.
To work in a warehouse position, you don’t need a specific skillset. In fact, most of the time, soft skills are one of the most important factors in the hiring process. For example, the ability to work independently once you’re trained and reliably showing up to work is what employers need to ensure a smooth operation.
To give you the hard skills needed to give you the edge in the interview process, Free2Learn’s Warehousing course will offer you fully funded industry-leading warehouse, logistics and supply chain training that employers are looking for.
